NC500 – North Coast 500 (Scotland’s equivalent to Route 66)

Ths Highlands has understandably been getting lots of attention in the past couple of years – in no small part due to the success of the North Coast 500 initiative (NC500).

NC500 is the key tourism project of The North Highland Initiative (NHI), which has direct involvement and support from His Royal Highness The Prince Charles and the Duke of Rothesay’s. NHI operates across three key industries in the North Highlands; tourism, food and drink and built environment.

Pitched by the media as Scotland’s ‘own route 66’, the North Coast 500 project aims to raise awareness of the North Highlands, to increase visitors, duration of visits and to support a stronger economy in the North Highlands. Plus, of course, it is a recognition of the amazing coastal touring route that covers some of the best the Highlands has to offer in a 500 mile round trip.
